Activities

Recently Cymdeithas y Dalar has taken part in a number of events and activities at both local and national level promoting sustainable growing and co-operation between likeminded organisations.

As a member of Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens (FCFCG) CYD participated in the West Wales networking meeting at the beginning of December 2009 and the launch of the FCFCG map in the Senedd in June 2010. As a follow up to the launch our allotment site at Home Farm was visited by Rhodri Glyn Thomas, our AM, who wanted to see the site with his own eyes, not just from photographs. FCFCG promotes the exchange of information between its members with the “Seeing is believing” campaign. The most recent visit to our site was from the members from the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend.

Because we retain close links with Transition Town Llandeilo (see History) we were invited to join them to meet Prince Charles during his visit to Llandeilo in October 2009. CYD also took part in the launch of the “Start Wales” event in the National Botanical Garden in September 2010.

Cymdeithas y Dalar regularly takes part in local events – in the past year members participated in “Revels in the Park”, the Llandeilo Show and the community food festival “A Taste of Tywi” (see picture) – as well as organising its own activities. We organised two Open days on the site – one in June which coincided with our Summer Solstice Party and another to support the “Food Festival” in September.

Allotment holders frequently respond to requests to join volunteer working parties to undertake tasks on the allotment site. In this way the site is gradually being developed for the benefit of all plot holders.

CYD continues to be contacted by various organisations from Llandeilo and other parts of Carmarthenshire to share experiences.
