Introduction
Welcome
to our website
which has been created for the use of members and
prospective members and for providing information to
visitors and other like minded individuals or to
encourage prospective allotment members.
The name of the organisation is
Cymdeithas y Dalar.
This is the Welsh for the
‘Society of the Headland’. In earlier times when
land was worked by oxen pulling a plough, there was an
area left unploughed where the oxen turned. This was
known as the Headland and local people had the right to
cultivate it to grow produce to feed their families.
Cymdeithas Y Dalar, or CYD
as it is affectionately known by its members, was
formed in 2007 and today provides a thriving allotment site,
with a small waiting list, for people from the Llandeilo and District area.
The Committee that runs CYD has produced a
Mission
Statement and a
Constitution Document as well as a set
of
Rules for holders of plots on the Home Farm Allotment
Site. They also encourage allotment holders to cultivate
their plots organically and actively support the
Wholesome Food Association principles.
Anyone living in Llandeilo or the
surrounding area interested in growing their own food in
an organic way is eligible to join the Society. There is
a small annual membership fee (currently £1 pa), which
entitles the member to participate in CYD's activities.
Members who also have an allotment plot allocated to
them are required to sign an annual agreement that they
will maintain their plot in accordance with the
Rules. They also pay an additional fee as "rental"
(currently £25 pa) for their allotment.
Although now an independent society,
CYD maintains its links with Transition Town Llandeilo
(see
History) and also participates in many local events
associated with organic growing and sustainability.
