Site Development Report

On this page you will see a summary of work carried out on the allotment site in the last year or so and an outline of the tasks planned for the coming  twelve months.

The majority of jobs that have to be done on the site can only undertaken if sufficient volunteers are prepared to join the working parties. We are please to be able to report that generally this has been the case during the past year and we extend our thanks to all those members who gave up so much of their time to help in this way.

Last Twelve Months

Jobs completed in the past twelve months include

  • The installation of additional rabbit fencing to the west, south and east fence and the repair of the north fence. (A large working party of about 16 people made this task easier).

  • The commissioning of one of the poly tunnels – using the plastic left to us by the National Trust, we managed to cover the poly tunnel and also repair the doors. (About 13 people helped on this one).

  • The addition of three new water tanks (with a further three to follow during the winter).

  • The suggestion box, which was made by Steve, one of the allotment holders, has been erected near the entrance gate. It would be nice to see it used a bit more, though.

Next Twelve Months

Tasks which we intend to conduct in the coming twelve months include

  • Hopefully see the arrival of the porta-cabin, which will include toilets.

  • Covering the second poly tunnel.

  • Siting 3 new water tanks.

  • Once again checking the fence for the new season.

  • Building a communal compost and storage area near the tool shed.

  • Adapting one of the plots with raised beds for people with disabilities.

  • Look into the drainage problem, with a view to identifying a solution.
